Press Release: Southern Illinois Highlights Carbondale Marion Area The August 2021 unemployment rate was 6.0 percent. This was a decrease of -2.3 percentage points from the August 2020 rate of 8.3 percent. Total nonfarm employment in August 2021 increased by +1,500 compared to last August.
