Office of the Governor

Browse by this collection

The supreme executive power of the state is vested in the Governor who succeeded to the duties of the territorial Governor in 1818.  The Governor also has the authority to convene special sessions of the General Assembly and is required to report to it on the condition of the state at the beginning of each session and at the end of his term of office. The Governor's legislative role is more fully described in the administrative history of the General Assembly (RG 600).
