The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced that the ramp from westbound I-55/70 to eastbound I-64 and northbound IL 3 in East St. Louis will be closed to all traffic beginning Monday, July 9, 2012, weather permitting. This exit ramp closure is necessary to remove retaining walls and construct new bridges associated with the new Mississippi River Bridge. All traffic will be detoured around this area using IL 203 to Collinsville Road to Exchange Avenue to 11th Street to Baugh Avenue to 15th Street to St. Clair Avenue (IL 3). This work is expected to be completed by December 15, 2012. The contractor on this project is Keeley and Sons, Inc. of East St. Louis, Illinois. The road closure is necessary to allow the Terminal Railroad to rehabilitate their crossing.
