This Part is intended to provide minimum standards for constructing and equipping new Type II school buses manufactured for use in Illinois. This Part assumes compliance with applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) (49 CFR 571), and the Society of Automotive Engineer Standards (SAE), and implements applicable Sections of the Illinois Vehicle Code (the Code) [625 ILCS 5/Ch. 12, Art. VIII]. In addition, this Part sets forth certain other minimum standards established by the Department, and authorized by Section 12-812 of the Code, to govern aspects not governed by the FMVSS, SAE Standards, or the Code. At the request of school bus owners and operators, a few of the requirements in this Part relate to durability and maintenance of school buses rather than safety.

The IDOT Safety Portal is a new secure website where IDOT can share current and past crash reports as well as crash data with the community of safety partners. The IDOT Safety Portal is also designed to be easily expanded and enhanced in the future. The Safety Portal is grouped into four areas: Data, Tools, Training, and Knowledge.
The IDOT Safety Portal is an outward facing secure website designed to help the IDOT Safety Partner Community find and leverage crash and safety information. Since the partner community is so broad and the crash information is of such high value, IDOT needs help from the partner community in making sure that everyone who needs access to this information gets access. Similarly, IDOT also needs help to make sure people who do not need access do not obtain access to the IDOT Safety Portal.
The purpose of this revision is to (1)inform the agencies of revised procedures, (2)make certain procedures are clearer through revision and exhibits and (3) issue revised charts and other listings which reflect current codes and descriptions.
The purpose of this Part is to prescribe the requirements for administering the Illinois Cycle Rider Safety Training Program that promotes safety for persons and property connected with the use and operation of motorcycles, motor driven cycles and mopeds as authorized by the Cycle Rider Safety Training Act [625 ILCS 35]. The Illinois Department of Transportation has the power, duty and authority to administer the Act. (See Section 3 of the Act.)
This Part establishes the requirements and procedures to be followed by an owner/operator of a diesel-powered vehicle registered within an affected area in the State of Illinois that is subject to a diesel emission inspection in accordance with Section 13-109.1 of the Illinois Vehicle Inspection Law (the Law) [625 ILCS 5/13-109.1]. Additionally, inspection, compliance and enforcement procedures are covered by this Part and establish the Diesel Emission Inspection Program.
These rules prescribe the requirements of the Illinois Department of Transportation governing the rates to be charged for safety test of school buses and prescribe the practices and procedures which shall govern all hearings conducted by the Department relating to rates charged by Official Testing Stations.
