Defendant Allen R. Johnson appeals from the dismissal of his post conviction petition as untimely. This court allowed defendants petition for leave to appeal (Ill. S. Ct. R. 315 (eff.Jan. 1, 2015)), and we now consider the timeliness of defendants petition within the meaning of section 122-1(c) of the Post-Conviction Hearing Act (Act) (725 ILCS 5/122-1(c) (West2008)). For the following reasons, we affirm the judgment of the appellate court.

At issue in this case is whether defendants, Salvador Lopez and Policemen's Benevolent Labor Committee, Inc., are precluded from seeking grievance arbitration of Lopez's termination from his employment with plaintiff Village of Bartonville's police department.
