Villa Park Police Station Urban BMP Demonstration Project: A Project to Demonstrate Integration of Green Roof, Permeable Paving, and Bioswale Urban Runoff Systems

Villa Park is in the Salt Creek watershed (WSID ILGL09) along segment GL09. This segment of the Creek is rated as partial support for overall use and aquatic life and nonsupport for swimming according to the 2000 Illinois Water Quality Report. The impairments are reported to be caused by priority organics, PCBs, excess nutrients including phosphorus, nitrogen and nitrates, salinity/TDS/chlorides, flow alteration, and excessive algal growth/chlorophyll a. The sources of pollutants are listed as municipal point sources including combined sewer overflows, collection system failures, urban runoff/storm-sewers, hydrologic/habitat modifications, upstream impoundment, flow regulation and modification, and contaminated sediments. Many of the causes and sources listed above are related to urban runoff, which is largely unregulated at this time. Thus, implementing and providing examples of best management practices to cleanse and reduce volumes of urban stormwater runoff is greatly needed in this largely built out watershed.

Violent Crimes Victim Assistance Program, 2012 Status and Updates

As Chairperson of the Violent Crime Advisory Commission, I am pleased to provide this annual report in accordance with the Violent Crimes Victim Assistance Act (VCVA). [735 ILCS 240/5]. The Illinois Department of Transportation announces today that weather permitting, US 30 east of Morrison will be restricted to one lane at the culvert replacement east of Yager Road on Monday, May 21, 2012. Temporary traffic signals are being erected and will control traffic flow while the culvert is replaced one half at a time.

Use of Push-Driven Technology

Also known as direct-drive, drive-point or direct-push, push-driven technology refers to tools used to investigate sites by driving, pushing, and/or vibrating small-diameter hollow steel rods into the ground. Sampling tools can be attached to the end of the steel rods to collect soil, soil-gas and groundwater samples. For purposes of this fact sheet, push-driven technology also includes push-driven equipment that is capable of using an auger tool (similar to that used for a conventional monitoring well) to install pre-pack monitoring wells.

Used Tire Program 2005 Biennial Report

Illinois EPAs Used Tire Program is recognized nationally as a leader in the management of used and waste tires. Prior to passage of the Used Tire Management Act in 1992, little reuse or recycling of waste tires occurred in Illinois. Through the efforts of the Illinois EPA and the other state agencies funded through the Used Tire Management Fund (via the tire user fee assessed to retail customers), more than one million waste tires are removed from dump sites annually and there currently are markets in Illinois that exceed the approximately 13 million used tires generated annually in Illinois. The signing of a significant piece of legislation in the summer of 2003 brought additional resources to Illinois Used Tire Program. Public Act 93-32 increased the tire user fee to $2.50 per tire sold at retail and will result in broader and more efficient used and waste tire removal efforts and better vector control measures at the state and local level.

Veolia ES Orchard Hills Landfill and Winnebago Landfill Odor Issues: Ogle and Winnebago Counties, Illinois

Over the past year there have been multiple accounts of odor complaints from areas surrounding the Veolia ES Orchard Hills Landfill and the Winnebago Landfill. Given concerns for public health and the environment, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (Illinois EPA) inspected each of the landfills to determine if there was a problem with odors at the landfills in question Sulfur-like odors were detected during some of these inspections at each landfill. Since that time, the Illinois EPA has been working with the Veolia ES Orchard Hills and Winnebago Landfills to evaluate landfill operations in an effort to ensure the health and safety of the community and the protection of the environment during operation of the facilities.

The lane closure will be in the westbound passing lane on the bridge over the Kishwaukee River. This closure will begin on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at 9:00 AM and conclude by 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 30, 2012.
