The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that bridge joint reconstruction and other routine repairs to the Illinois 50 (Cicero Avenue) bridge over the CSX Railroad in Alsip are scheduled to begin, weather permitting, on Monday, Aug. 6.

I-74 lane restriction at the IL 5 (John Deere Road) overpass

The Illinois Department of Transportation announces today that weather permitting, I-74 will be restricted to one lane in each direction at the IL 5 (John Deere Road) overpass on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The lane closures are necessary due to the construction work on the overhead bridges. Civil Constructors began repairs on structures on July 16th. The $1.1 million project is scheduled to be completed by mid-September.

IL Route 176 (Maple St.) at Canadian National Railroad closure in the Village of Mundelein

IL Route 176 (Maple St.) will be fully closed at the Canadian National Railroad in the Village of Mundelein, Lake County. Beginning on Friday, August 17, 2012 at 8:00 AM through Friday, August 24, 2012 at 6:00 PM for the repairs of the subject grade crossing. The posted detour route for eastbound traffic on IL Route 176 (Maple St.) is to proceed southbound on US Route 45 and eastbound on Hawley Street back to IL Route 176 (Maple St.). The posted detour route for westbound traffic on IL Route 176 (Maple St.) is to proceed south-west bound on Hawley Street and northbound on US Route 45 back to IL Route 176 (Maple St.).

IL 15 near St. Libory

The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that daytime lane closures on Illinois Route 15 just east of St. Libory will begin on Monday, July 9, 2012, weather permitting. These lane restrictions will be needed during shoulder widening operations. Motorists are urged to use caution and allow extra time when traveling through the work zone. This work should be completed by August 8, 2012. The contractor on this project is Christ Bros. Asphalt Inc. of Lebanon, Illinois. Steve Putz is the Supervising Field Engineer for the Illinois Department of Transportation in this area.

I-270 in Madison County

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that beginning Monday, October 8, 2012, lane restrictions will be encountered along I-270 at the Chain of Rocks Canal Bridge and are estimated to be completed Friday, October 26, 2012, weather permitting. The lane restrictions will be first installed EASTBOUND and will be in place for 2 weeks. The lane restrictions willthen be moved to the WESTBOUND lanes and will be in place for one week.

Load Reduction Strategy and TMDL Draft: Indian Creek, Dago Slough and Prairie Creek

This report contains a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) allocation for manganese and a Load Reduction Strategy (LRS) for phosphorus and total suspended solids. TMDLs include allocations for both nonpoint and point sources. Illinois EPA applies TMDLs towards those parameters with numeric water quality standards, which have been adopted by the Illinois Pollution Control Board. LRSs are based on targets for the watershed and focus on nonpoint source controls. The reason for this is that the pollutants in question (Total Suspended Solids (TSS) and Total Phosphorous (P)) do not currently have a numerical standard in place. In the case of Phosphorous, a state standard does exist for lakes, however, Indian Creek, Dago Slough, and Prairie Creek are small streams and therefore a P standard does not exist. Recent water quality sampling showed one exceedence of the Mn standard by 0.01mg/l; a TMDL will be developed for Mn. We have still approached this project as a traditional TMDL but will refer to it as a Load Reduction Strategy (LRS) for P and TSS.

Mauvaise Terre Creek Watershed: Final Stage 1 Progress Report

This report documents the analysis and findings of stage 1 of the TMDL development for water segments within this watershed. Water quality data are gathered by the IEPA, the US Geological Survey, and the USEPA. Illinois is required to identify water bodies that do not meet water quality standards and to determine the Total Maximum Daily Load for pollutants causing the impairment.
