Some household products are potentially dangerous to living things and the environment when disposed of improperly. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) has designed a program to deal with such problem wastes. Utilizing funds from the Solid Waste Management Fund and the General Revenue Fund, the Agency sponsored 71 household hazardous waste collections during the state fiscal years 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002. This report details the benefits of household hazardous waste collections in Illinois and summarizes the results of the projects.

Federal Site Remediation Program Annual Report: 2002

During 2002, Federal Site Remediation Program staff of the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (Illinois EPA) provided valuable services to the people of Illinois in implementing the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act of 1980, as amended (known as CERCLA or Superfund). Program engineers, scientists and geologists are assigned as project managers for these cleanup efforts. They are challenged by some of the largest and most contaminated properties in the state and the nation. The project managers provide leadership and assistance in dealing with complex technical, legal and community issues. Illinois EPAs Federal Site Remediation Program is recognized as a leader in the nations Superfund and federal facility cleanup efforts.

In February 2007, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (Illinois EPA) conducted an environmental investigation at the former Abingdon Pottery Company located at the corner of Sanitary Road and East Street. This investigation was part on an on-going Brownfield redevelopment effort. During the Illinois EPA investigation, it was discovered that surface soils in this area contained high concentrations of lead.

Full Closures Scheduled on LaGrange Road in Orland Park

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that U.S. 45 (LaGrange Road) between 135th and 143rd streets in Orland Park will be closed overnight, weather permitting, for four consecutive nights starting March 30. The closures are required to install structural steel for the new Metra SouthWest Service Line bridge over U.S. 45.

IL 2 (Main St.) north of Rockford

The Illinois Department of Transportation announces the following update to the project to reconstruct IL 2 (North Main Street) north of Rockford. On Tuesday, May 1, 2012, Latham Road will be closed west of IL 2 for approximately three months. Latham Road traffic will be detoured around the construction closure on Rockton Road, Gleasman Road and Old River Road.
