Load Reduction Strategy and TMDL Draft: Indian Creek, Dago Slough and Prairie Creek

This report contains a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) allocation for manganese and a Load Reduction Strategy (LRS) for phosphorus and total suspended solids. TMDLs include allocations for both nonpoint and point sources. Illinois EPA applies TMDLs towards those parameters with numeric water quality standards, which have been adopted by the Illinois Pollution Control Board. LRSs are based on targets for the watershed and focus on nonpoint source controls. The reason for this is that the pollutants in question (Total Suspended Solids (TSS) and Total Phosphorous (P)) do not currently have a numerical standard in place. In the case of Phosphorous, a state standard does exist for lakes, however, Indian Creek, Dago Slough, and Prairie Creek are small streams and therefore a P standard does not exist. Recent water quality sampling showed one exceedence of the Mn standard by 0.01mg/l; a TMDL will be developed for Mn. We have still approached this project as a traditional TMDL but will refer to it as a Load Reduction Strategy (LRS) for P and TSS.

Mauvaise Terre Creek Watershed: Final Stage 1 Progress Report

This report documents the analysis and findings of stage 1 of the TMDL development for water segments within this watershed. Water quality data are gathered by the IEPA, the US Geological Survey, and the USEPA. Illinois is required to identify water bodies that do not meet water quality standards and to determine the Total Maximum Daily Load for pollutants causing the impairment.

Lane Closure for IL 3 at Broadway in Venice

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced lane closures on IL 3 north bound from Broadway to 0.5 mile north of Broadway in Venice beginning Monday, July 9, 2012, weather permitting. It is anticipated the lane closures will extend through July 13, 2012.

Kirby Avenue over Interstate 57 to be closed for Bridge Repairs

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that between June 4, 2012 and August 3, 2012, Kirby Avenue over Interstate 57 will be closed for bridge repairs. The closure will be between Cobblefield Road on the west and Holmstrom Street on the east. A detour route will be implemented using Staley Road, Windsor Road, and Duncan Road. Weather permitting, the project will start on May 21, 2012 with occasional lane closures on Interstate 57 to allow prepatory work underneath the structure. During construction, one lane of traffic will be maintained on I-57 and Kirby will be closed as discussed above.
