With the financial support of the Justice Research and Statistics Association, the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority (ICJIA) has created this guidebook to assist juvenile justice councils in achieving three of the six duties andresponsibilities listed in the Illinois Juvenile Court Act. The guidebook is intended to be used as a reference manual for existing councils that are embarking on these three duties and responsibilities. It is also intended to be used as aninformation guide for jurisdictions that do not currently have a juvenile justice council, but are considering convening one.
This Trends and Issues Update examines the likelihood of convicted felons being sentenced to prison in Illinois, how trends in this likelihood changed during the 1990s, how they varied across Illinois counties, and factors influencing the use of prison over probation as a sentencing option for convicted felons in the state.
