Results of the 1999-2000 Illinois Waterfowl Hunter Survey

A total of 3,160 (67%) Illinois waterfowl hunters responded to the 1999-2000 Illinois Waterfowl Hunter Survey. The number of hunters who hunted waterfowl during the 1999-2000 waterfowl season increased 15% from the previous season. Hunters reported a record 1,472,301 days afield, an increase of 85% over the 795,561 days reported for the 1998-1999 license year. Waterfowl harvest increased 66% from 471,072 birds during 1998-1999 to 783,195 during 1999- 2000. Harvest estimates were as follows: 311,325 mallards, 69,930 wood ducks, and 181,650 other ducks. A total of 55,199 teal were harvested during the early September teal season. Goose hunters harvested 119,611 Canada geese during the regular Canada goose season.

Results of the 2000-2001 Illinois Waterfowl Hunter Survey

The final response rate for Illinois waterfowl hunters to the 2000-2001 Illinois Waterfowl Hunter Survey was 1,857 (70.9%). Hunters reported spending 1,119,048 days afield, a decrease of 24% from the record high 1,472,301 days for the 1999-2000 license year. Waterfowl harvest decreased 10% from 783,195 birds during 1999-2000 to 708,092 during 2000-2001. Duck harvest estimates were as follows: 271,903 mallards, 58,604 wood ducks, and 166,834 other ducks. A total of 38,597 teal were harvested during the early September teal season. Goose hunters harvested 128,387 Canada geese during the regular Canada goose season.

Results of the 2003-2004 Illinois Waterfowl Hunter Survey

A total of 2,703 (59%) potential Illinois waterfowl hunters returned questionnaires for the 2003-04 Illinois Waterfowl Hunter Survey. The respondents included 2,343 individuals who purchased a 2003-04 Illinois Migratory Waterfowl Stamp, of which 2,108 (90%) hunted waterfowl in Illinois in 2003-04. The hunters reported spending 1,251,974 days afield, an increase of 19% from the 1,054,047 days expended during the 2002-03 license year. The waterfowl harvest increased 29% from 504,616 birds during 2002-03 to 650,906 during 2003-04. Duck harvest estimates were as follows: 285,011 mallards, 48,023 wood ducks, and 153,165 other ducks. A total of 20,453 teal were harvested during the early (September) teal season. Goose hunters harvested 83,207 Canada geese during the regular Canada goose season. Attitudes of hunters toward duck season dates, teal season dates, and waterfowl management practices were profiled, as were waterfowl hunting experience and background information for waterfowl hunters.

Results of the 2004-2005 Illinois Hunter Harvest Survey

A random sample of 3,000 potential hunters was selected from the 2004 Illinois Habitat Stamp stubs and license sales. An eight page questionnaire was mailed to 2,910 of the 3,000 individuals. We received 1,938 (67%) returned questionnaires, 1,911 of which were usable. License sales increased 2.4% from 293,000 sold for the 2003 season to 300,000 sold for the 2004 season. Comparisons of harvest estimates from 2003-2004 season to 2004-2005 season suggest harvest estimates increased for 10 game animal categories (rabbit, quail, pheasant, dove, woodcock, fox squirrel, gray squirrel, raccoon, gray fox, and opossum), decreased for 2 categories (red fox and coyote), and could not be calculated for 1 category (gray partridge). We examined hunter activities, attitudes, and preferences related to dove hunting, upland game hunting within and outside Illinois, and personal characteristics.

Illinois Department of Revenue publication FY 2002-02 Sales and Use Tax Exemptions for Certain Leased Property, Informational Bulletin To: Lessors, Retailers, and Servicepersons. For lessors, certain items that you purchase for lease on or after August 2, 2001, may be exempt from sales and use tax. For retailers, certain items you sell to your customers on or after August 2, 2001, may be exempt from sales and use tax. Qualifying items include certain types of equipment to be leased to hospitals and any type of property to be leased to government organizations. This same exemption was first allowed for items purchased or sold on or after January 1, 1996 through December 31, 2000. On January 1, 2001 this exemption expired. For items purchased or sold on or after January 1, 2001 through August 1, 2001, this exemption was not in effect. For items purchased or sold on or after August 2, 2001, this exemption is being reinstated.
