The Illinois Department of Transportation has announced that weather permitting bridge replacement work will begin on the Embarras River Bridge on Monday - May 7th. The work will take place on Route 16 east of Charleston.
This fact sheet has been prepared based on the information that the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (Illinois EPA) has at this time and on its investigation to date. The Illinois EPA discovered that a contaminated emergency back-up water supply well was being used illegally by supplementing the treated Lake Michigan water that Crestwood provides to its residents. The well has been sealed; Crestwood has been supplying only treated Lake Michigan water to its residents since November 2007.
Illinois EPA investigations continue concerning the illegal use of the tainted Crestwood Public Water Supply (PWS) well and the origins of the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) found in the PWS well which we are currently attributing to drycleaner solvent breakdown products.
The purpose of this third Fact Sheet is to provide information to the community about the recent work at the Chicago Heights Refuse Depot landfill site. Other than routine maintenance and inspections, the construction work at the site is complete. The printable map referenced in the fact sheet is being included in a separate pdf attachment.
